Entertaiment is any form of activity that holds the attention and interest of a group or individual or gives pleasure and delight. It may take the form of ideas or tasks but is more likely to be one of the activities and events that have developed over thousands of years specifically for the purpose of entertainment. The word originates from the Medieval Latin intertenere, which means “to hold inside.”

Many entertainments have an extreme character, for example rites, parties, non secular pageants, or satire, but they can also be a way of attaining perception or highbrow growth. Entertainment often hits on the themes that the brain was evolved to react deeply to.
