Entertaiment means to keep amused or provide enjoyment. Some common forms of entertainment include watching movies and television, playing video games, reading novels or short stories, attending concerts or musical performances, and creating or appreciating visual art. In a broad sense, it also includes social activities such as dining, parties, and weddings. The word evokes an image of fun, but it can also be used to describe serious endeavors such as work or education. The word traces its roots to the Medieval Latin intertenere, which is derived from the root ten, meaning “to hold.”
